jie-jie bed (the new toddler bed)

We finally put Eliana’s bed up yesterday. It was a hand-me down from Stephanie’s aunt. It was one of those things that we’ve been pushing off for a while.. not sure why exactly. For the past few months, Eliana has been sleeping on the floor, in our bed, and in her pack and play (our portable play-pen).

So I came home early from work, played a little with my girls and then set up her bed. When it was ready, grandma and I took her upstairs for her nap… we introduced “jie-jie bed” or “big sister bed” to her. She loved it. She climbed up onto the bed and tucked herself in. This is the same girl who hates taking naps and usually runs to “mommy bed” when placed into the pack and play. I guess the pack and play is too much like a prison and she didn’t want to be placed in jail to sleep. But she warmed up to “jie-jie bed” pretty fast.

So I tried something different today with the new bed. Instead of staying with her with until she fell asleep, I placed her down for her nap and walked out. As I walked out, I left the door slightly ajar just to see what she would do. She stayed in bed for about five minutes and then after not hearing any noises, she climbs down, pulls her blankets onto the floor and lies down on the floor. I guess old habits never die easy. She then sneaks over to the door and opens it… only to find me staring right back at her. She’s slightly startled and runs back to the pile of blankets on the floor.

I tell her she can sleep on jie-jie bed. And she nods okay. I nap with her for about 15 minutes and she’s out… I quietly sneak out of the room.

And that is our adventure with jie-jie bed.

(Disclaimer: jie-jie bed looks similar to the picture but not pink and no storage and also no strawberry ice cream theme… i just found a random photo off thefurniture.com courtesy of google.com)
