Phoenix Legend

i heard this song compliments of channel 30-3, in other words the Chinese channel. it’s very catchy. what caught my attention was the girl singer’s voice. its raw quality reminded me of folksy songs that are sung in other traditional cultures. don’t know much else about them yet except that apparently they’re pretty big in China are possibly of Tibetan or Zhuang descent, namely a minority in China. ok. enjoy. g’nite. -mommy

Lyrics: Before the Throne of God Above

Before the Throne of God Above
Words by Charitie Lees Bancroft, Music by Vikki Cook
From Together for the Gospel Live

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
A great High Priest whose name is love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heav’n He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart

Simple Gifts

The one part of the inauguration that caught my attention was the music played by Yo-Yo Ma, Perlman, McGill and Montero.  I recognized the tune but couldn’t place exactly where it was from.

The part I recognized was an old Shaker hymn entitled Simple Gifts(composed by Joseph Brackett in 1848).  I sang a song in college called Lord of the Dance (composed in 1963 by Sydney Carter) which used the same melody.

Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he.

Anyways, it’s always a good feeling when you recognize music.
