Update: 2004 Goals Review

Just reviewing my ten goals in 2004. I’m pretty happy with them. I eventually accomplished some of the ones I set out to do.

1. read the bible in a year (#1 is ongoing/failed)
2. start grad school (update: started in 2004 and completed in 2005; restarted in 2006)
3. get in shape (aka buff) (#3 failed miserably)
4. find a job (check: 2004 (FDIC), 2005 (FCPS), and 2006 (USPTO)
5. share the love of Christ with people (ongoing/failed)
6. get more involved with christian fellowship (#6 somewhat, joined a church end of 2004)
7. be more proactive in relationships particularly with friends and family (haven’t been very proactive with anyone)
8. do some traveling (china??) (update: made it back to china in 2005)
9. make some big purchases (property??) (update: bought a house in 2008 with major renovations in 2009)
10. last but certainly not least… make new friends (esp. ones of the female gender) (update: met a girl in 2004, engaged in 2005, married in 2005… so i’m gonna hold off in making any more female friends)

I’ll give myself a 5/10 even though some of the more abstract goals were hard to evaluate and the goals weren’t accomplished within the time frame. I do like how ambitious I was… haha… I’ll try to update with my new top ten list sometime in the near future.

So, what are some of your goals?

Enter the New Year 2009 (a review)

Be warned… this year end review is a flow of random thoughts. It’s more for me than anyone else. It helps me to see where this year has gone.

Happy Reformation Day!

Been pretty busy this past week… had a home inspection… learned a lot about home maintenance. They should have a class for all first time home buyers. And yesterday I was able to talk to the next door neighbor’s landlord about a certain flooding problem. Hopefully we have it solved. If not, there will be more troubles ahead.

Today the USPTO had a celebration for our record breaking year. Yes, we have successfully achieved or surpassed all of our goals for this past year. Like I said to my wife… we need to raise the bar ;)… They gave us a free lunch. I met up with an old buddy

Instead of the usual halloween, we helped a friend pack up for his move. We moved his library to our basement. So by the grace of God, we were able do the inspection, talk to the neighbor, cleanout the basement and move the stuff in. If anyone wants to come over and read theology with me, you are more than welcome.

Today is Reformation Day, most people know it as Halloween, but for protestants, mostly Lutherans and reformed churches, and it is the anniversary of Martin Luther’s posting of his 95 theses against indulgences… fun. Not really sure how to celebrate it. According to Wikipedia, Lutherans traditionally sing “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”…

so here goes…

Weird Dreams during pregnancy

Been having weird dreams lately. Talked with some old friends over some intimate topics… momma geezlouies had vivid dreams as well. It’s something that happened last pregnancy. And so it goes. We found out about two weeks ago that we are expecting number two. It was after three failed pregnancy tests, two months of constant nausea, and a blood test that came out negative.

We finally went to the doctors again where they confirmed we’re expecting… as a result I’ve stayed home to help out momma geezlouies… she’s been feeling under the weather for the past two months, so lots of seltzer water, lots of crackers and lots of craziness.

Baby’s perspective

eliana, however, is enjoying the many newfound pleasures of food, communications, bath time, outdoors, walking, etc… everything is fresh. Looking forward to #2.

I’ll leave you with this link, soothing sounds of falling rain to put baby to sleep, maybe it’ll put you to sleep as well:

this is a parody of one of baby’s favorite video… Beijing Welcomes You… brought to you by the foreign students at Tsinghua University:

here’s the actual one. pretty good, it’s got over a hundred different chinese/HK/TW actors/actresses/singers you name it, kind of like the “we are the world” of china…

Update

This week was packed especially with house guests and guest visits from thduggie, joofly and BK spread throughout the week.  Had a good time catching up on old times.  Life, church, family, etc.

Continued reading through the Outline of Paul’s Theology by Herman Ridderbos. Learning about new life in Christ, obediance, ethics, and what it means to live in the reality of the resurrection and the expectation of the return of Christ.

The past class I took was on biblical theology which focused on redemptive history and interpreting the bible from a temporal perspective. It looked at the present in relation to Christ’s death and resurrection and Pentecost and also in relation to the return of Christ, but also realizing the reality of our resurrected state in our union with Christ… It was quite good… but a bit too much for my limited understanding. Still reviewing my notes.

We had church on Sunday and a reunion with some old friends we met a while back. A couple that led mission teams to various latin american countries. They’re hoping to reach out to the predominately latino community where our church is situated. I’m excited for that.

This week ended with the super bowl… details in previous post…

Gaoxiang in town…

Gaoxiang visited this weekend. As usual, we ate lots. We went to our favorite local chinese restuaurant, (Sichuan Village) in Chantilly VA. They offer a chinese buffet, but whatever you do, don’t get the buffet. Bring a chinese person with you and order from the “authentic chinese” menu. Here’s the Mastercard commercial highlight of the evening:

Ma Po Doufu – $8.50

ChongQing LaziJi – $9.95

and

Maria Lee practicing her Mandarin (priceless).
